Alesha Dixon, 40, is hosting The Greatest Dancer alongside Jordan Banjo, 26 on the BBC show. Now, the former Mis-Teeq member has spoken out about her relationship with singer Cheryl, 35, as she admitted “she’ll always have another woman’s back”. Speaking to The Sun, Alesha revealed she feels “protective” of those around her. She told the publication: “I feel protective of people I care about.
“It’s sad, as a woman, I am always going to have another woman’s back, and Cheryl and I go way back.
“We really like each other and she is absolutely fabulous on this. It’s lovely to be working on a show together.”
This comes after reports claimed Cheryl and fellow judge Oti Mabuse “didn’t seem to gel” during filming for the show which was said to have left an “uncomfortable” atmosphere.
An insider told The Sun: “Cheryl arrived with such an air of superiority — a few of the crew thought she was being a bit of a diva.
“Oti has years of dance competition experience alongside Strictly where she’s been massively popular with fans – but has absolutely no ego at all.
“They didn’t seem to gel and it was pretty uncomfortable.”
However, a representative for Cheryl hit back at the claims saying it was a “fabricated story”.
They told Express.co.uk: “It’s a fabricated story – yet again trying to pit female against female on a TV show. It’s a shame we haven’t moved past this.
“Cheryl absolutely loves working with Oti and has a brilliant relationship with her.”
Oti also responded to the claims admitting there was “absolutely no tension between the pair”.
Taking to Instagram, she told her 183,000 followers: “THERE’S ABSOLUTELY NO TENSION between @cherylofficial and myself.(sic)
“This beautiful woman has been nothing but caring, accepting and guiding towards me, she’s funny, smart and honest @cherylofficial sis you’re an absolute QUEEN.
“I love you dearly and cannot wait to work with you.”
Meanwhile, The Greatest Dancer mentor, Cheryl, recently came under fire from choreographer and Dancing On Ice judge Jason Gardiner, 47.
The skating judge branded Cheryl’s dancing background as “questionable” ahead of her appearance.
Speaking to The Mirror, he said: “The judging line up on that is questionable as well… what’s her dance background?
“Where is her dance background? She went to Royal Ballet School that you pay for, an extortionate amount to go to because mum and dad just want to drop you off somewhere for the holidays.”
The Greatest Dancer continues tonight on BBC One at 8.10pm.
