Brockville mayor Dave Henderson is taking another run at provincial politics, announcing that he will see the Liberal nomination for the riding of Leeds Grenville-Rideau Lakes-Thousand Islands.
Henderson has been mayor of Brockville since 2006. His first attempt to enter provincial politics was in 2010 when he sought the Progressive Conservative nomination. He lost the nomination battle to Steve Clark, who is currently the riding’s PC MPP.
Henderson says he’s making the switch to the Liberals because he believes party’s policies are more progressive, adding the PCs have become “regressive.”
“We’ve got a very clear choice this time around,” he said. “I think we’ve got to keep on the road we’re on to make sure that this province can be better.”
At the moment, Henderson is the only person vying for the Liberal nomination in the riding.
The nomination meeting takes place on March 15 at 2 p.m. at the Brockville Convention Centre.
