The 12 contestants for this year’s Great British Bake Off have all been announced as fans look forward to the opening episode tonight (August 28).
This is the second year that the much-loved baking contest will be airing on Channel 4.
Judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith are back and hopefully dole out handshakes along with hosts Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding.
Here’s a look contestant Antony Amourdoux and his previous baking experience.
Who is Antony on Great British Bake Off 2018?
Antony Amourdoux is a 29-year-old banker from London.
The self-described “Bollywood Baker” grew up in India where he learned to bake with his father.
His partner applied to the Bake Off this year on his behalf leaving him shocked when he was phoned by Channel 4 for an interview.
“I went in for my dad who taught me how to make a Victoria Sponge as a little boy. And my partner who signed me up for this.”
Antony said that walking into the tent for the first time was “excitingly scary and very surreal”.
“After years of watching the show walking into that tent felt like walking into an expensive palace loaded with life’s biggest challenges (all good though),” he said.”
Impressing Prue was a big goal for him this season.
He explained: “I surely wanted to impress both Blue eyes and lovely Prue. Prue takes the cake on this one with her wealth of knowledge in the food industry is just so vast and diverse.
“So her taste buds were top priority.”
As for appearing on television for the first time, Antony said there are “scared butterflies rumbling in my tummy as I think about transmission”.
“Never in a million years did I think I would be on Britain’s best television show,” he added.
What is Antony’s previous baking experience?
Antony started baking as a child with his father teaching him his skills.
“As a little kid I was always in awe of my dad who made the best Christmas cakes and pizzas back home in India,” he said.
“He was and will always remain my inspiration.”
Antony has an adventurous palate from his travels around the world as well as a love for trying new foods and describes his baking style as at times unconventional and always interesting”.
His friends and family love his concoctions and he says his “macaroons and cakes go down a treat at special occasions”.
Antony often posts photos of his creations that he makes in his tiny kitchen on Instagram, like these elaborate shortbread biscuits (above).
His favourite bake is an eclair with an “interesting melt in the mouth filling topped with an exciting glaze on the top ie a choux pastry filled with a rich chocolate hazelnut praline cream covered in exciting dark chocolate glaze” which will certainly stand to him on pastry week.
The Great British Bake Off 2018 starts tonight on Channel 4 at 8pm
