Jennifer Susan Wilkov and Andrew M. Akers were married June 20 on the promenade in Brooklyn Heights by Steven M. Gold, a United States magistrate judge for the Eastern District of New York in Brooklyn. On June 24, a religious ceremony is to be led by Rabbi Serge Lippe at the Brooklyn Heights Synagogue, where the couple met in 2013.
Ms. Wilkov, 49, is a writer and the author of “Boys Before Business: The Single Girl’s Guide to Having It All” (Morgan James Publishing, 2010) and other nonfiction books. She is also a consultant to writers developing books and scripts for film, television and theater. She graduated from Syracuse. She is the daughter of Majorie Hillsberg Wilkov of Georgetown, Tex., and Dr. Howard R. Wilkov of Aventura, Fla.
Mr. Akers, 56, works in Park Slope, Brooklyn, as a senior adviser at Urban Investment Partners, a Washington real estate development and investment firm. He graduated from Columbia, where he also earned a master’s degree in financial engineering. He is a son of Decy Akers and Sheldon E. Akers of Lake Worth, Fla.
The bride’s previous marriage ended in divorce, as did the groom’s.
