Rep. Pete King Supports Second, Tougher Immigration Bill

Rep. Pete King, R-N.Y., said he is strongly supporting a second immigration bill coming before the House this week, as it is tougher than the first bill Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., had sponsored last week.

“I am totally opposed to sanctuary cities,” King told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures,” while he explained why he voted against the first measure. “Under [the first] bill, the would cut funding to police in those cities. That was making a bad situation worse. It would have put my constituents at risk.”

The second bill is also sponsored by Goodlatte, who is “doing a great job here,” and addresses family reunification as well as other vital immigration matters. King said Sunday he does not agree with President Donald Trump, who tweeted Friday that lawmakers should wait unit after the midterm elections in November to vote, as there would be more Republicans in both chambers by then.

“We should lay this out and get it passed and get it over to to the Senate,” King said. “If it can get to 60 votes in the Senate, that would be possible. It’s going to be tough. It’s important to be out there.”

Meanwhile, King complained about the Department of Justice and the FBI in connection with the ongoing probe into the 2016 election.

“This was delayed and delayed,” King said. “Literally at the 11th hour Friday, we got this response. [It is] inadequate. They don’t answer the question about whether or not informants were used. They imply there were.”

The DOJ also referred the question of informants to former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, “who had nothing to do with this,” King said.

“I remember James Clapper saying he wasn’t even aware there was an investigation going on when he was the Director of National Intelligence,” King said. “They have to let us know, first of all what human sources were used. Were they informants and were they being paid? When did this investigation start? If they actually used sources before the start of the investigation that raises the most serious questions.”
