The Walking Dead season 9 news Daryl Dixon star Norman Reedus confirms Rick Grimes exit? | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Last week The Walking Dead  community was plagued by rumours Andrew would be departing the AMC series.

The Hollywood reporter said the Rick Grimes star would be “phased out” in the coming ninth season.

Furthermore, his departure would echo that of Maggie Rhee’s (Lauren Cohan) who is said to follow a similar trajectory in the new episodes.

The cast have largely stayed quiet on the matter, not wanting to drop any spoilers, but it seems Norman, who plays Daryl Dixon may have dropped the biggest hint yet.

The 49-year-old shared a touching snap of Daryl and Rick embracing.

He captioned the black and white upload with a red love heart emoji, letting the sentiment do the talking.

This comes after reports emerged suggesting Daryl would become the next lead character.

It is thought Norman is currently in talks with AMC to have his role elevated, according to CBR.

But is he really the right choice to take over the lead?

Daryl took a rather quiet role in season eight and was merely a soldier in the battle against Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

The lone-ranger chose instead to follow his own path in the story and took a rather unconventional approach to All Out War.

He clashed with Rick at various points and it was his ability to roam free which helps to make the character so loveable.

Meanwhile, Andrew previously said about Rick potentially leaving: “There’s certainly an endgame in my head.

“Whether or not that’s the same endgame that’s in the producers’ heads or the people I work with, is another matter.

“That’s open for discussion.”

Meanwhile, Lauren is about to take a big role in her new ABC series Whiskey Cavalier.

She will almost certainly appear in the first half of season eight, but it is currently unsure how her character’s journey will progress after that.

With The Walking Dead losing Chandler Riggs, who played Carl Grimes, in season eight, it seems two more heavy loses could prove damaging to the show’s future.

Furthermore, Danai Gurira’s Michonne could be tipped for an exit given the actor’s recent success in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Walking Dead season 9 will air this autumn.
