Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., thanked President Donald Trump for calling attention to Tropical Storm Barry and asked people to “keep Louisiana in your prayers.”
His comments came in a Friday tweet as residents of Louisiana braced for the impact of the strengthening storm.
He wrote: “Thank you @realDonaldTrump for bringing attention to #TropicalStormBarry. Hurricane season brings a lot of uncertainty and hardship for families along the Gulf Coast. Please continue to keep Louisiana in your prayers this weekend as we tough out this storm.”
Trump had tweeted Thursday evening: “To everyone on the Gulf Coast: As you make preparations to protect your homes & loved ones from flooding & the coming storm, it is imperative that you heed the directions of @FEMA, State & Local Officials. We are working closely w/ them. Please be prepared, be careful, & be SAFE!”
The latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center put the storm’s top winds at 65 miles per hour with higher gusts. Officials warned of “life-threatening inundation from rising water moving inland from the coastline.”
Kennedy ended a Friday interview on the Fox News show “America’s Newsroom” by saying: “If you are a praying man or woman, say a little prayer for us.”
