There is an “incredible federal delegation” representing the state of New York, and the state Republican Party is casting its net “far and wide” to find a candidate who can run against New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and defeat him, Nick Langworthy, who chairs the New York State Republican Committee, told Newsmax TV on Saturday.
“Look at people like [Rep.] Elise Stefanik, or congressman Lee Zeldin, or congressman Tom Reed,” Langworthy told “The Count,” noting, none of the three have denied being interested in running against Cuomo, who has come under fire in recent days for his handling of the state’s nursing homes in the early days of the coronavirus pandemic.
The three members of Congress have a “proven track record” at the ballot box and are people who could win the race, added Langworthy.
However, when asked about Donald Trump Jr., another name that has been mentioned, the chairman replied he believes the former president’s oldest son “is a Floridian at this point.”
Meanwhile, reports concerning the underreporting of deaths in the state’s nursing homes have brought Democrats and Republicans together, said Langworthy, and now there is “real talk” about impeaching the three-term Democrat governor.
“I believe Democrats are going to join forces to pull the emergency powers that were given to Andrew Cuomo for COVID-19,” Langworthy said. “The governor lied to New Yorkers. He lied to Americans, and he lied to the families of those that lost their lives in nursing homes, and they covered it up and they’ve been caught.”
