THE Abanse Negrense and Sta. Lucia teams are set to clash in the semifinal round of the Philippine Superliga (PSL) Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority on Sunday, February 28.
Facing Abanse Negrense A is Sta. Lucia B at 10:00 a.m while Abanse Negrense B takes on Sta. Lucia A in the other bracket of the semis knockout round at 11:00 a.m.
Winners of the respective matches are set to face off for the gold in the finals at 5:00 p.m.
Powered by the duo of Erjane Magdato and Alexa Polidario, Abanse Negrense A entered the semifinals after its 21-12, 21-11 win over Toby’s Sports in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
On the same day, Jonah Sabete and Bang Pineda of Sta. Lucia B also punched their ticket to the semis with a 21-15, 21-13 quarterfinals victory over United Auctioneers, forging a rematch against Magdato and Polidario, who beat them 21-14, 21-12, in the pool play on Friday.
Sta. Lucia B also has a chance to stain Abanse Negrense A’s pristine 4-0 record in the semis.
Likewise, Sta. Lucia A and Abanse Negrense B are set to have a rematch in the semis.
Gelimae Villanueva and Jeniffer Cosas of Abanse Negrense B outlasted DM Demontano and Jackie Estoquia of Sta. Lucia A in a three-set duel in the first round.
Abanse Negrense B dominated Petro Gazz 21-6, 21-3 in the quarterfinals on Saturday to stay unbeaten in four games and reach the semifinals.
On the other hand, Sta. Lucia A fended off the gutsy F2 Logistics squad 16-21, 21-10, 15-10 in the quarterfinals match to barge to the semis.
