RUSH TRANSCRIPT: KILMEADE: “Governor how do you respond to the president’s unification message of calling you and other governors a neanderthal?” ABBOTT: “Two things, Brian, first, obviously it is not the type of thing a president should be saying, but seconds, he kind of said it on the worst day he could have. Because the same day he said that, in Texas the Biden administration was releasing illegal immigrants into our communities who had Covid. The Biden administration was spreading Covid in south Texas yesterday because of their lack of constraint of testing and quarantining, people come across the border illegally. The Biden administration was exposing Texas to Covid. That is a neanderthal type approach dealing with the Covid situation. But more importantly, with regard to masks the change in Texas wasn’t all that much different from what we were before for a couple reasons. We are still strongly advocating every Texan follow best practices. Where we are today is different from where we were this time last year when Texans and Americans didn’t know how to deal with this. For an entire year Texans of learned the best practice to wear a mask and we strongly recommend that people do wear a mask but I know you folks know when we saw spikes in cases after Christmas and new year’s we saw that most of those spikes didn’t occur in businesses or schools or other locations like retail centers, most of those transmissions occurred in the home setting where people were not wearing a mask in the first place so the mask requirement being illuminated isn’t going to make a change in the state of Texas. Also people in Texas will continue to wear masks even though there is not a state mandate. We are in a situation where government mandates are not needed because Texans know the best practices.” KILMEADE: “You’ve given them the freedom to decide, Kroger’s, Macy’s, Starbucks, target, you’ve got to wear masks. It is up to the states 1 quote was from the host on another channel, governor reeves in Mississippi, you are intentionally murdering people of color with this policy.” ABBOTT: “Nothing could be further from the truth for different reasons. One thing Texas is doing is setting up 1100 National Guard to go to communities that are hard to reach with regard to vaccination program and making sure everybody of every color will have a chance to get the vaccine, Texas is doing a great job rolling out vaccines, yesterday was an all-time record, 229,000 vaccines. For the past week we should 1.2 million vaccines, it is very close to people of color and all kinds of things are being done to make sure everybody in Texas is getting vaccine, vaccine numbers are going up very rapidly. People of all categories and colors but I have to emphasize this. Our main focus in Texas is to focus on those most likely to lose their life or be hospitalized because of Covid-19, those age 65 and older. From the time that order goes into effect, 50% of that population will have been vaccinated.” KILMEADE: “The CEO who was controlling the grid during the arctic freeze has been fired, he is on a 60-day exit plan. Are you in support of that?” ABBOTT: “I called for his resignation. We know from the fact put together and information provided to me a large part of this problem was an operational error, making assessment before the storm, operational error and slamming on the brakes as opposed to opposing a slow-rolling blackout like driving a car on ice could lead to a rack and that is what happened here, waited until too late to slow the provision of power forcing him to slam on the brakes and that led to a domino effect of shutting down the consequences. Fixing operational error here will go a long way to fixing the problem.”
