Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that he is deploying National Guard troops to the southern border to address what he calls a “crisis.” Abbott (R) announced Operation Lone Star over the weekend to address the smuggling of people and drugs into the state, something he blames on the current administration. “The crisis at our southern border continues to escalate because of Biden Administration policies that refuse to secure the border and invite illegal immigration,” he said.   “Texas supports legal immigration but will not be an accomplice to the open border policies that cause, rather than prevent, a humanitarian crisis in our state and endanger the lives of Texans,” added Abbott. The governor warned that he would “surge” resources and law enforcement in an effort to combat the crisis at the border. Today Texas launched Operation Lone Star to respond to the border crisis. It deploys Nat’l Guard + DPS Officers + air, ground, marine, & tactical border security assets to deny Mexican Cartels & smugglers the ability to move drugs & people into Texas.https://t.co/r68J2laDpH — Greg Abbott (@GregAbbott_TX) March 7, 2021   National Guard to Help Secure Our Border DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, recently asked by reporters if there is a crisis developing at the southern border replied, “No.” “The men and women of the Department of Homeland Security are working around the clock seven days a week to ensure that we do not have a crisis at the border—that we manage the challenge, as acute as the challenge is,” Mayorkas said. A Wall Street Journal report indicates, to the contrary, arrests of unaccompanied immigrant children at the southern border have “surged.” USA Today published a column revealing that “migrant children who arrive with a relative who isn’t their mother or father are still being separated from them and held for weeks under the Biden administration.” Migrant children who arrive with a relative who isn’t their mother or father are still being separated from them and held for weeks under the Biden administration, activists and lawyers said.https://t.co/T9G1PqJxfX — USA TODAY (@USATODAY) March 6, 2021   Even the media seems skeptical of the administration’s efforts to downplay the crisis at the border. While President Biden continues to deny reality, Republican Governor Greg Abbott is taking decisive action to protect border communities by properly making use of the National Guard.
