CEBU: The first Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas Vismin Super Cup Finals is down to a winner-take-all Game Three after the MJAS Zenith Talisay City Aquastars beat the KCS Computer Specialist Mandaue City, 63-56, at the Alcantara Civic Center in Alcantara town here on Saturday night, May 8, 2021.
With its back against the wall, MJAS Zenith played its heart out in the fourth period to edge out KCS Computer Specialist in Game Two, sending the best-of-three championship series to a deciding game, which is set on Sunday at 7 p.m.
Most Valuable Player Jaymar Gimpayan, Darrell Menina, Jhaymo Eguilos, Egie Boy Mojica and Paulo Hubalde came to life in the fourth canto as they dropped a backbreaking 16-2 blast to put the Aquastars ahead, 57-50.
Determined to end the series, Mandaue City stayed within striking distance of that goal and came within three, 56-59, after Gryann Mendoza split his charities with 1:19 remaining.
But Hubalde was there to extend the Talisay City’s lead to five, 61-56, by making a pair from the charity stripe.
KCS Computer Specialist had several shots to trim the deficit, but Shaquille Imperial and Mendoza missed several good looks from beyond the arc.
Menina, who led the Aquastars with 15 points, five boards and five dimes, sealed the game via a layup with 14 ticks left to play.
Hubalde chipped in 11 points, six boards, four assists and two steals while Gimpayan added eight points, eight rebounds and three steals.
Ping Exciminiano paced Mandaue City with 14 points, eight rebounds, two assists and three steals before exiting the game at the 8:38 mark in the fourth period due to an apparent leg injury.
Rhaffy Octobre and Mendoza chipped in 11 markers each with the latter piling on 13 rebounds, seven assists and a blocked shot.
