A Senate Judiciary Committee hearing turned contentious on Wednesday with Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) telling Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) to stop “mansplaining” amid an argument about originalism in judicial rulings.

“I would ask that Senator Cruz not mistake what I’m saying and, you know what, all this mansplaining — please stop,” Hirono said.

Cruz had been questioning District Court Judge Gustavo Gelpi, who President Biden had nominated to sit on the First Circuit Court of Appeals, and objected when his inquiries were cut short at the end of his allotted five minutes.
